Teen Art Contest

July 1 – July 31, 2018

Eligibility & Submission Requirements

Open to teens entering grade 6 through 2018’s graduating class. A 1st place prize of $25 gift certificate to Michaels, a 2nd place prize of $15 gift certificate to Michaels and a 3rd place prize of $10 gift certificate to Michaels will be awarded at the end of the contest. Each teen is eligible to win one prize. Teens may submit up to three items for this contest.

Entries must be received between July 1 at 9:00 AM – July 31at 8:00 PM. Artwork must be no larger than 28 inches high by 28 inches wide and weigh no more than 10 pounds.

Entries must be created after June 1 and school assignments are not acceptable as entries. Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo (other than the student’s own), painting, graphic, advertisement, or any other work produced by another person is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted. Work entered must be in the original medium (that is, not a scanned reproduction of a painting or drawing). Entries can be rejected and returned at any time by the APL Staff.

Liability and Damage

By submitting your work of art, you release and hold harmless the Appleton Public Library and staff from any damage that may occur. Delicately constructed work requiring more than normal careful handling will not be accepted. Items that are unraveling or otherwise separating will not be accepted. Items must be completely dry when submitting.

Accepted Media includes

  • Painting - oil, acrylics, watercolor, tempera or gouache.
  • Sculpture –  ceramics, glass, plaster, clay. All plaster sculpture must have a permanent base securely attached.
  • Textiles – wool, cotton, rattan, plastic handmade and or hand decorated items are welcome.

Labeling Requirements

Submissions without labels will be disposed of in a manner decided by the teen librarian. Teens may choose to donate their art to the library or ask for its return by circling either option on their entry label. Each entry must have a label securely attached with the following information typed or printed clearly.

  • Donation or Return (Circle One Option)
  • Full Name
  • Address
  • Phone Number and/or Email Address
  • Artwork Title
  • Medium
  • Short description

Winning & Judging Requirements

After August 1, judging for the art contest will commence. Submissions will be judged by creativity, craftsmanship, and use of materials. Items marked for return must be picked up after the teen is contacted. Submissions can be picked up until September 30. Items not picked up after October 15 will be disposed of in a manner decided by the teen librarian.
