2017 Fox Cities Reads

The 2017 Fox Cities Reads book is Stella by Starlight, by best-selling author Sharon Draper.

The book, set in the 1930s, tells the story of fifth-grader Stella who must face prejudice and find the strength to demand change in her segregated town. Stella by Starlight gives readers of all ages the opportunity to engage with one another and explore issues of prejudice and discrimination.

“I am thrilled that Stella by Starlight has been chosen for Fox Cities Reads 2017. Stella’s story, although fictional, is based on very real childhood memories of several generations. Through the eyes of a child, we learn the power of history, the joy of family, and the meaning of courage," said Draper. "It has been said that all great stories emerge from deep truths that rest within us, truths that can resound in the minds of others, so I look forward to our conversations of strength and hopes and dreams.”
