The Appleton Library Foundation

Providing cutting edge library service to the Appleton Community

The Appleton Library Foundation was founded in 1985 to promote excellence in public library service to the Appleton community. Unrestricted contributions to the Foundation from local businesses and individuals enhance tax dollars to provide library collections, programs and services that are on the cutting edge.

Starting with an initial goal of a $1 million endowment, the Foundation currently has assets in excess of $1.9 million.

Each year the Foundation provides grants to the library for library collections, programs, and computer technology.

  • Public access to the Internet began with cooperative funding from the Foundation, the Outagamie Waupaca Library System, and the Appleton Public Library operating budget.
  • New collections, including circulating CD-ROMs and Storytime Kits, were created with seed money from the Foundation.
  • Adult Programs such as Fox Cities Reads, including financial support to bring in New York Times best selling author Barbara Ehrenreich on April 17, 2007.

The Friends of Appleton Library Endowment Fund
The Foundation manages the Friends of Appleton Library Endowment Fund. The Fund was established in November, 1980 with seed money from the Appleton Woman’s Club. The interest from the fund is used each year for special programs and exhibits, while the principal remains intact to generate funds for future programs. Examples of FOAL Endowment Fund programs include Summer Library Program storytellers and puppeteers, a presentation by children’s author Debbie Dadey, and performances by respected children's musician Tom Pease.

Planned Giving Program
Individuals who donate to the Foundation have several options available in the Planned Giving Program:

  • Outright Gifts
  • Gifts of Income and Remainder Interest
  • Charitable Gift Annuity
  • Gifts by Will

Planned giving employs tax, financial and estate planning techniques to enable a donor to make a substantial gift commitment to the Appleton Library Foundation that provides significant tax and financial benefits for the donor.
