Discussion Series
Leadership: Biographies of Great Americans

March 9, March 30, and April 27

With a generous grant from the Appleton Library Foundation, the library will be offering a unique discussion series called Leadership: Biographies of Great Americans. We are fortunate that three local leaders, former Appleton Mayor Dorothy Johnson, Tom Fanning, retired Appleton West High School history teacher, and Leon Jensen, retired Appleton lawyer, have agreed to lead the discussions.

Program Schedule:

March 9 Dorothy Johnson
Certain Trumpets by Garry Wills
Discussion topic: Leadership and leaders

March 30 and
April 6
Tom Fanning
Thomas Jefferson
by Norman K. Risjord
Discussion topic: Thomas Jefferson, including his views on religion, slavery, and government

April 27 and
May 4
Leon Jensen
Last Best Hope of Earth by Mark E. Neely
Discussion topic: Abraham Lincoln

The format will be discussion among the participants, using the book as a guide in that discussion. It will not be a review of the book itself. All programs will be held from 10:00am to 11:30am in the lower level meeting room of the library. Feel free to attend one or all of the programs. Advance registration is requested. Please call the library's Community Services Office at 832-1695 to register and request the books.
