Fine Print -Summer 2001  Volume XII, Number 2
Reading Road Trip U.S.A

Reading Road Trip U.S.A. is the theme for the 2001 Summer Reading Program for Children at the Appleton Public Library. Games and incentives are offered for pre-school through elementary age readers as they explore the many destinations that can be visited through books. The program begins June 11 and runs through August 11.

Pre-readers are invited to join the program with a parent or other helpers who will read to them. Children who read on their own can participate by registering and receiving a library game board. They will spin a spinner or roll a dice and follow the twisty path around the game board to win prizes and enter the reading program drawings.

Special events for children and families during the summer include:

  • June 14 1:30pm Jim Gill, songster
  • June 26 1:30pm David Dahl, humor in song
  • July 10 1:30pm Time Step Players, interactive musical theatre
  • July 17 1:30pm Wise Guy and His Gal, comedy
  • July 24 1:30pm Hardy Garrison, storytelling
  • July 31 1:30pm Hans Mayer, songster

Family programs, featuring Miss Kathleen, will be held Monday evenings July 9-August 13 at 6:30 pm. Tuesday mornings, July 10-August 14, at 10:30am Chuck Lakefield of WROE 94.3 FM joins the library staff presenting stories, songs, and finger plays. Road Trip U.S.A. Video Theater will be held Wednesday mornings at 10:00am during August.

Readers may participate online at www.apl.org. Reading Road Trip U.S.A. is supported by the Friends of Appleton Library and Appleton Library Foundation. For additional information call 832-6187.
