Cover Story
Cover Story is the Appleton Public Library's Summer
Library Program for young adults entering grades 7-12. The goal
is to encourage teens to read during the summer by offering small
incentive prizes throughout the program and large prizes at the
end. The program will kick off June 10th at a party featuring
the improvisational comedy group ComedyCity.
Cover Story allows each teen to set his or her own
pace, and to read books they have chosen themselves. This is the
third year for the Library's Summer Reading Program for young
adults. Last year more than 300 teens took part.
Participants in the program are given review cards
asking questions about each book read. The completed cards are
submitted at the Library's Information Desk. Teens then draw tickets
for each submitted review to determine the level for a small incentive
prize. Next, they enter their names for a chance at the large
prizes, which will be presented at a final pizza party August
9th. A special drawing will be held weekly for the best reviews.
This year's prizes include a DVD player, a chair
in the shape of a giant hand, laser tag membership, an alarm clock/radio,
and a Fox River Mall gift certificate. All prizes were selected
by the Appleton Public Library's Teen Advisory Board, and purchased
with donations from the Appleton Library Foundation and Friends
of the Appleton Library.
