Frank P. Young
Scholarships
University of Wisconsin Milwaukee School of Information
Studies graduate students Colleen Rortvedt and Joseph Bongers
were awarded 2002 Frank P. Young Scholarships by the Appleton
Public Library Board of Trustees. Each received a $500 grant.
Colleen graduated in 1995 from Lawrence University.
She is currently the Young Adult Services Assistant at the Appleton
Public Library. Joseph graduated in 1997 from the University of
Wisconsin Madison. He is working at the Neenah Public Library
as an assistant librarian in the Adult Services Department. Both
intend to work in public libraries when they receive their Masters
Degree.
The Frank P. Young Memorial fund was established
at the Appleton Public Library in September, 1969 in memory of
Mr. Frank Young who was committed to the education of young people
at Lawrence University and to the promotion of library service
in Appleton. Each year interest from the fund is given as a grant
to a student completing his or her work for a graduate degree
in Library Science. Applications are reviewed by the Scholarship
Committee of the Appleton Public Library Board of Trustees and
a recommendation is made to the full Board for the award. This
year's Scholarship Committee members were Rev. Willis Bloedow,
chair; Peter Ducklow, and Terry Bergman.
