Fine Print -Summer 2002  Volume XIII Number 2
Join the Winner's Circle - READ!

Join us at the Appleton Public Library this summer as we celebrate the many sports and games that can be read about in books. The 2002 Summer Reading Program, "Join the Winner's Circle," is open to youth of all ages. Pre-readers are invited to join the program with a parent or other helper who will read to them. Children who are reading on their own can play the wavy READERVILLE game. Spin the spinner, read books and follow the path around the game board for points to use to get incentives.

Children ages 10 and up can play the BOOKOPOLY game. Roll the dice, read books, and follow the twisting path around the game board for prizes. Each time participants come to the library, they can put their name in for a drawing.

Readers can help their school BE A WINNER. The Appleton Public Library's Reader's Cup will be awarded to the school that has the largest percentage of students participating in the APL reading program. The trophy remains on the display at the winning school until the next year's Children's Services summer reading program. What school will win the Appleton Public Library's Reader's Cup in 2002? Will St. Pius recapture the Reader's Cup trophy?

A variety of programs will be offered for all ages: Songster Tom Pease performs June 10 at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.; preschool storytimes begin Monday evenings, July 1 and Tuesday mornings beginning July 2; Tuesdays in July at 1:30 p.m. features a variety of performers and our own Kathleen Gerarden doing a Captain Underpants program based on the popular Captain Underpants book series by Dav Pilkey, and Wednesdays in August is Video Theater morning. Wednesdays in July are storytimes for center and family daycares.

Registration for the Children's Services Reading Program begins on June 10. All programs are free.

Can't get to the library for these programs as often as you would like? Join the online summer reading program. Register online at kids.apl.org and write book reports on the books you read and earn points to be used at the pit stop store this summer.

Need a ride to the library? Valley Transit will let you ride the bus on Wednesdays by showing your library card. Library passtime is from June 5- August 28 for children under eighteen.
