The 1930 Federal
Census for Wisconsin is here
The 1930 Federal Census for Wisconsin on microfilm
has arrived at the Appleton Public Library.
Information from the census is arranged by county and includes
personal, family, home, educational, citizenship, and occupational
information for individuals. The information is particularly valuable
to genealogists who use it to write their family histories.
The official date of the census was April 1, 1930. There is a 72-year
privacy restriction on census records. The major differences in
the 1930 census from earlier census records include:
- In 1920, the census asked "if naturalized, year of naturalization."
In 1930, the census asked only if the person were naturalized.
- The 1900, 1910, and 1920 censuses asked if a person owned or
rented a house. In 1930, the schedules also included the value
of the home or the amount of rent paid each month.
- The 1930 census asked if the home had a radio.
- The 1930 census asked a person's age at the time of his or her
first marriage.
- In 1930, the census asked in which specific war a man fought.
- Additional information about the 1930 census can be found on
the web at 1930census.archives.gov.
The library's microfilm collection is located on the first floor,
