Cover Story
For the fourth year teens at the Appleton Public Library have
had a summer library program of their own. Students entering grades
7-12 participated in Cover Story, a program designed to encourage
teens to read for fun over the summer.
Participants in the program were given review cards asking questions
about each book they read which they returned to the library’s
Information Desk. Teens then drew tickets for each submitted review
to determine the level for a small incentive prize. Incentive
prizes range from erasers and notepads to t-shirts. Finally, they
entered their names for a chance at the large prizes, which were
given away at the final pizza party August 8th.
This year's grand prizes included a DVD player, and gift certificates
for the Exclusive Company, Fox River Mall and Funset Boulevard.
All prizes were selected by the Appleton Public Library’s
Teen Advisory Board, and purchased with donations from the Appleton
Library Foundation, Friends of the Appleton Library, Plexus Corporation
and SueAnn’s Bagels.
This year teens were provided extra incentive to write high quality
book reviews by offering weekly drawings for all the best reviews
that were submitted. Winners of those drawings were given gift
certificates to the International House of Pancakes or SueAnn’s
Bagels.
Each February the library offers a companion program called Cover
Story: Winter Edition, which is an abbreviated version of the
summer library program.
