Music at the Library Special Event: The Randy Sabien
Jazz Quartet
Thursday, October 2, 2003
7:00-8:30pm
Appleton Public Library
Lower level meeting room
Randy Sabien was trained in classical violin. He did an “about
face” one day and discovered he could play jazz on his violin.
He was inspired by music of the swing era as well as music from
his own generation including the Beatles, the Grateful Dead, and
the Allman Brothers. His first album, In a Fog, received glowing
reviews from Downbeat, JazzTimes, Billboard magazine, and others.
“Jazz violinists usually draw from one of two traditions.
The best of both can be found in the superb Randy Sabien…he
combines classical technique and folk energy in a program that’s
still strictly jazz.”
