Post-Crescent
Database
In order to provide quick access to recent articles in the Post
Crescent, the Outagamie Waupaca Library System has subscribed to
the Newsbank Post Crescent database. Users can search for newspaper
articles by keyword and date. The database includes articles from
2002 to approximately two weeks current. The articles provide full
text content of local and regional news about community events,
schools, politics, government policies, cultural activities, local
companies, state industries and people in the community. Paid advertisements
are excluded.
Users will find the database on the home page of the Appleton Public
Library (www.apl.org) or the Electronic Resources
Page of the web site of the Outagamie Waupaca Library System (www.owls.lib.wi.us).
Use is available to everyone at local libraries; from home or work,
users will have to enter their library card number to get access.
For now only articles since 2002 are available in full text. For
articles published prior to 2002, the user will still have to use
the microfilm copy of the Post Crescent that is available at the
Appleton Public Library. The library’s website includes an
index that provides date and page of selected local articles published
since 1853.
The Newsbank database is useful to find current information about
a new restaurant opening in town, the date and time of a local concert,
or a recently published obituary. It is valuable to both the casual
user and the local history researcher.
The Newsbank subscription is funded by the Appleton, Kaukauna,
Kimberly and Little Chute public libraries as well as the Outagamie
Waupaca Library System. Access to the database is available at all
system public libraries.
