Music @
the Library
Mark your calendars for two free concerts in the Appleton Public
Library’s lower level meeting room this fall!
Thursday, October 7th
7:00-8:30 pm
Weavermania
In 1947 Ronnie Gilbert, Lee Hays, Fred Hellerman and Pete Seeger
formed the folk quartet known as The Weavers. Their songs represented
the backbone of American folk music. Folk song standards such
as “Goodnight Irene,” “Kisses Sweeter Than
Wine,” and “On Top of Old Smokey,” typified
The Weavers song list.
Four veterans of the Chicago Folk Scene,
Barbara Barrow, Chris Walz, Mark Dvorak and Michael Smith,
have joined forces to reproduce
the original songs and sounds of the Weavers. They call themselves
Weavermania.
Wednesday, October 27th
7:00-8:30 pm
Four Shillings Short
The music of Four Shillings Short is rooted in Celtic and American
folk music and inspired by Indian Raga and ethnic idioms. Based
in the San Francisco Bay Area, their sound has been described
as “neo-Celtic folk of the first order”. Four Shillings
Short consists of duo members Christy Martin and Aodh ‘Og ‘O
Tuama. They will entertain us with their rich vocals and a variety
of musical instruments.
The Appleton Library Foundation provided
funding for both concerts. Admission is free and no tickets
are required. Contact the Community
Services office at 832-1695 for further information.
