Fine Print -Spring 2004  Volume XV Number 1

NEWCAT in Spanish

NEWCAT, the web catalog for public libraries in Northeastern Wisconsin, is available in an English and a Spanish language version. As you enter the catalog, the first choice is the language in which to view the catalog. Just a click of the mouse on Español and all of the instructions for using the catalog including the very important help (ayuda) screens are in Spanish.

The titles and information about the materials are in English unless it is a Spanish language title, but navigating and understanding the catalog is now a bit easier for the library's Latino patrons.

Espanol Gates Computers

La biblioteca proporciona el uso de teclados en Español y los productos de Microsoft en Español.

Members of the Latino community, students and other library users now have access to keyboards and Microsoft products in Spanish. The library's Gates Computer lab provides this option as well as other specialized accessibility settings. All user guides are printed in Spanish and English and there are guides for English speakers assisting Spanish speakers.

Logging in using the keyword Spanish activates the Spanish language options.

Those who want to search the World Wide Web can use a buscador (search engine) or a directorio de búsqueda (search directory) or the web address to view and navigate website contents in Spanish.

So, if you want to communicate in Spanish as a native speaker or as a Spanish language student, the library can provide the tools. Any of the reference desk staff would be happy to help you get started (los biblioteacarious le puede ayudar).
