Lorine Niedecker Centenary Exhibit
Appleton Public Library will host the Lorine Niedecker Centenary
Exhibit from March 7-27, 2004 at the first floor west wing exhibit
space. The Fort Atkinson Historical Society and the Friends of
the Dwight Foster Public Library sponsor this traveling exhibit
and it celebrates the life and work of poet Lorine Niedecker.
Lorine was born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin on May 12, 1903 and
became a poet of world renown. She has been called a "poet
of place" because her poetry is grounded in the area where
she lived. Although her work is already well known nationally
and internationally, this exhibit hopes to inform Wisconsinites
of her work. She is considered possibly the state's greatest poet.
The exhibit is open for viewing during regular Library hours and
is free. For further research, the following sources are available
