We’re very excited to introduce a new version of Fine
Print! You can now receive your copy via email, either in addition
to or instead of through the US Mail. Staff has been working
hard for several months to fine tune a version of the newsletter
that we can send to you via email. It will consist of a single
graphic page that you will be able to open with any email client
that can read HTML. The page will contain headlines and summaries
of the main stories in each issue, and have live links to the
complete stories in the online version of Fine Print on the Library’s
website.
We will be sending this first email issue to everyone in our
Fine Print mailing list that we have an email address for. We’ll
also send out the print edition to all of our regular subscribers.
If you don’t get the email version, you can sign up to
start receiving future editions on our web site at http://www.apl.org/fp/ . If you do get it, and don’t want to receive future editions,
you can also use this page to remove yourself from the mailing
list. After this first issue, we will remove you from our print
mailing list if you are on the email list, unless you specifically
contact us and tell us that you want to receive both versions.
We’ve tested the product with a small group of people
using a variety of email systems. But we can’t be absolutely
positive that it will work for everyone every time. If you have
problems receiving the newsletter, if the links don’t work,
or if you don’t think it is displaying properly, you’ll
find a list of fixes for common problems on the website at http://www.apl.org/fp/fphelp.html . If that doesn’t help, give me a call at 832-6168 during
library business hours, or send me email at bkelly@apl.org.
We really hope that more and more people will sign up to receive
the newsletter this way. Postage and printing costs continue
to rise, making it harder for us to send out the paper copies.
This new technology will allow us to reach more people for less
cost. And there are real advantages to the electronic version,
since it has live links to more information about happenings
at the Library. We hope you like it.
