Fall into YA!
Wrapping up Summer!
Cover Story, the Teen Summer Library Program, was a great success!
Over 300 teen players registered for the program and well over
1000 reviews were turned in! The quality of reviews this year
was spectacular with many teens writing the best reviews possible
in hopes of earning Bonus Reviews (and bonus chances at the
grand prizes). The Final Party on August 5th included pizza,
games, and the much anticipated Grand Prize Drawings! Want
to know who won the ipod shuffle? Portable dvd player? Check
out the TeenLinks website for a complete list of winners!
Falling into Fun!
While the Appleton Public Library will be offering a variety
of different programs for teens all fall there are two big
events planned for the month of October: Deborah Ellis will
be visiting the Library and Teen Read Week!
Deborah Ellis is the writer of several young adult novels, including
the Breadwinner trilogy. Working in cooperation with the Appleton
Area School District, Deborah Ellis will be visiting the City
of Appleton in early October. The Library is please that she
will be speaking here on the evening of October 6th. Deborah
Ellis’ inspiration for Breadwinner comes from the time
she spent at Afghan refugee camps and all Breadwinner royalties
are being donated to Women for Women in Afghanistan for the education
of girls in the refugee camps. We are lucky to have Deborah Ellis
speak at the library in what is sure to be an exciting and interesting
presentation.
Teen Read Week (October 16-22) is a time to celebrate teens
and the library. The Library will be offering two very different
programs for teens this week. On Tuesday October 18th Teens Knit!
will teach teens how to knit their first scarf just in time for
the weather to turn cooler. On Saturday, October 22nd the Anime
for Teens film series will have a Marathon from 11-3. While film
titles are still being picked teens can count on a lot of fun
and food!
TLC Looking for New Members!
The Teen Library Council (TLC) will resume regular monthly meetings
in the fall. TLC members advise the library on teen trends
and interests. Members also work closely with the Young Adult
Librarian as volunteers for the teen summer library program.
There will be an Open Meeting in September for any teens interested
in finding out more about the Teen Library Council.
All teen programs are funded by grants from the Appleton Library
Foundation and the Friends of the Appleton Library. For more
information, dates, and times of all the programming available
to teens at Appleton Public Library visit our website, TeenLinks,
