Children's Braille Collection

Did you know there is a Children's Braille Collection at the Appleton Public Library? The core of the collection 147 titles was purchased with a grant from the Rotary Club of Appleton in 2001. The collection now has almost 200 titles and continues to grow. The collection is located in the Children's Section on the North wall of the library. Look for the Braille book signage or ask for help at the Family Reader's Advisory desk.

The library has developed a booklist for the collection, which is available in the children's services section. Standard reading levels are represented in the new collection. There are board books for the youngest child, picture books for the preschool child, easy readers for the emergent and new readers, advanced easy readers for children who are ready for complex ideas and expanded vocabulary and fiction for chapter the book reader.

Some of the authors represented in the Braille collection are Dr. Seuss, Gary Paulsen, Cynthia Rylant, Judy Blume and Marc Brown Titles such as the Harry Potter series, Mother Goose Rhymes, Poetry, Junie B. Jones and Henry and Mudge can also be found in the collection.

Braille books can be checked out for three weeks at a time and can be renewed.
