The
Appleton Public Library, in association with the OWLSnet consortium
of area libraries, introduced a new software
system on February 21, 2006. The new system, called InfoSoup,
is the place to go when you are hungry for answers. InfoSoup
includes the library’s catalog, full text magazine articles,
access to online databases, including genealogy resources, and
links to book and movie reviews. The new software provides state-of-the-art
technology that can be built on for years to come.
InfoSoup provides
many features that will make finding library materials both
easier and more enjoyable. For example, the new
catalog allows users to enter a card number just once when placing
multiple holds. For the first time, a single volume of a multi-part
item can be placed on hold, and library users will be able to
determine their places on a hold lists. InfoSoup also
allows readers to create their own reading lists and remember
those
books already checked out. The system provides e-mail courtesy
reminders the day before items are due and, as before, allows
items to be renewed from home. InfoSoup also offers cover art
for books, CDs and DVDs. Another feature allows the downloading
of audiobooks onto personal computers or portable players.
