something
old...something new
The Appleton Library has received a second grant
to digitize local history materials. This is a Library Services
and Technology grant through the Department of Public Instruction
and will make these resources available to genealogists and researchers
online. Local interest titles selected for this project include
the 1925 Appleton City directory, which details the renumbering
of local street addresses, 1978 and 1989 Appleton Historic Building
Surveys, “Our First 100 years, 1857–1957”,
and “Appleton’s 75th Anniversary Celebration and
George Washington Bi-Centennial, 1857-1932”. Outagamie
County historical resources include “Commemorative Biographical
Record of the Fox River Valley Counties of Brown, Outagamie and
Winnebago, and “Land of the Fox, Saga of Outagamie County”.
By digitizing them they will remain accessible to everyone.
The digitization will take place at the Wisconsin Digital Collections
Center in Madison this year. The University of Wisconsin Digital
Collections’ goal is to provide access to Wisconsin’s
rare and/or fragile items of broad research value and other items
that are of value to students, scholars and the general public.
When the project is completed later this year, the digitized
materials and the indexes will be found on the Appleton Library
website and also become part of the University of Wisconsin Digital
Collections site at http://uwdc.library.wisc.edu/.
