Presenting the 2006 Summer Reading Program for Children

The Appleton Public Library will celebrate summer by hosting 8 performances to encourage children of all ages and their families to read and visit the library.  Children’s services will kick off our Summer Reading Program with three performances by everyone’s favorite performer Tom Pease. Tom will present a morning program for the daycare children and care givers who attend our Storyvine program throughout the school year.  There will be two afternoon concerts for families. The afternoon concerts will be at 1:00 and 3:00 on Thursday June 15.

Once again children’s services will present our Tuesdays in Summer program series aimed at school age children.  Many of the events will appeal to children of all ages and their caregivers.  The Tuesday in Summer series programs begin at 1:30, the doors will open 15 minutes before the show starts.   The series will begin on Tuesday June 27.

  • June 27            Mr. Billy presents a Rock & Roll style concert that is interactive and just plain fun.  This will be great for kids and families of all ages.

  • July 11             Tim Reed presents Virtual Visions - "Virtual Visions" is a definite departure from his usual puppet performances. Taking live video of the audience Tim will turn them into giant projected puppets in our very own library music video! It will be a highly interactive show with lots of audience participation and should be great fun for all kids (and adults!)

  • July 18             Scales and Tales with Nature's Niche – An educational program on reptiles that promotes interactive, hands-on fun.  Issues related to conservation, consumer purchase, cultural impacts, geography, science and math are covered.  Fun for all ages.

  • July 25             Traveling Lantern Theatre Company presents - The Hobbit
A grand story of peril, wonder and daring!
The cherished tale of a home-loving little Hobbit who finds himself on an adventure he could never have imagined!  On the way he meets elves, trolls, a wizard and a dragon... and ssssomething ssstrange called a Gollum.  Very suitable for children of all ages!

  • August 1         Wind River Wildlife Rehabilitation of New London is part of the U.S. Wildlife Rehabilitator program.  Wind River staff member Randie and her partner will bring some live birds of prey and live mammals to the library.  Randie will present information about the animals.  Great for kids and families of all ages.
We hope to see you at the library this summer.  Come in and join “Paws, Claws, Scales & Tales” for reading, fun and prizes.
