Library Student Awarded Frank P. Young Scholarship

The Frank P. Young Scholarship for 1996 was awarded to Kathleen Fischer, a graduate student in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Library and Information Science.

Ms. Fischer, who has completed an internship at the Samuel Rosenthal Memorial Library at St. Joseph's Hospital in Milwaukee and fieldwork at the Reference Desk and in the Curriculum Collection at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Golda Meir Library, is currently working with the American Geographical Society Collection at Golda Meir. She is the President of the School of Library and Information Science Student Organization. She will graduate in May.

The Frank P. Young Memorial Fund was established at the Appleton Public Library in September, 1969 in memory of Mr. Frank Young who was committed to the education of young people at Lawrence University and to the promotion of library service in Appleton. Each year interest from the fund is given as a grant to a student completing his or her work for a graduate degree in Library Science. Applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee of the Appleton Public Library Board of Trustees and a recommendation is made to the full Board for the award. This year's Scholarship Committee members were Lucia Baehman, Chair, Eloise Oeser-Jeanette, and Ronald Dunlap.
