The Friends of Appleton Library has completed a busy holiday
season. The Children's committee, chaired by Karen Falk, collaborated with
Children's Services for two major projects. Governor Thompson's First Book
Initiative targeted St. Elizabeth Hospital and Appleton Medical Center. Thanks
to this effort, 800 books were distributed to newborns and their families. In
addition, the Salvation Army's "Give a Child a Book" project
collected books that were distributed to families in need during the holidays.
A big thank you to our patrons who generously donated 20 boxes of new books
(1,269 titles) and 4 boxes of used books for this worthwhile cause.
Be sure to mark Tuesday, April 13th at 7:00pm on your calendar.
That is the date and time for the annual Friends of Appleton Library Spring
Meeting in the lower level meeting room at the Appleton Public Library. After a
brief business meeting, Eileen and Don Herrling will entertain with a slide
presentation titled "Land of the Fuzzy Hairs", an adventure trip to
Papua New Guinea. Eileen and Don have won awards for their travel photographs.
Their work has been published in National Wildlife Magazine, Reader's Digest
and other periodicals. Papua New Guinea boasts 12,000 foot mountain peaks,
endless jungles, and a population that continues to practice ancient rites and
ceremonies. You can even witness a crocodile hunt from a safe vantage point!
The program is free and open to the general public. For further information,
contact Community Services at 832-1695.
Updated Friends of Appleton Library By-laws will be voted upon during the business portion of the Spring Meeting. Copies of the By-laws are available at the Reference and Media/Fiction desks of the library for FOAL members to review prior to the meeting.
