Make Waves: Read
Staff members at the Appleton Public Library announce they are ready for young people and their families to "make waves" this summer! Make Waves: Read! Is the theme for library activities this summer.
Beginning on June 8, school age children joining the program will receive a library game board and begin playing the library reading game to win prizes. School age children play the library reading games, read books and follow the path around the game board to collect points for incentives. Children who are read to by parents, grandparents, older siblings, and other caregivers collect a point each time they visit the library to use for incentives at the library store.
The six week session of ducky storytimes begin July 6 at 7:00 p.m. The storytimes are scheduled for early evening to provide an opportunity for the entire family to attend.
On August 7 at 10:00 a.m. Drop Anchor: It's Video Time begins.
Young adults entering grades seven, eight, and nine are invited to investigate volunteer opportunities in the Make Waves: Read! library program.
Carole DeJardin at the Appleton Public Library reports that several special guest performers are scheduled to help celebrate watery recreations and aquatic life. They include -Randy Peterson, Songster/storyteller on June 8. Two performances are scheduled- one at 1:30 and the second at 2:30. Performances are also scheduled at 1:30 on Tuesdays in July.
Presenters include Judy Stock - storyteller presenting a sesquicentennial program on July 14; Rondini - a magician on July 7 and Cheney & Mills - jugglers on July 28.
Friends of Appleton Public Library and area businesses provide all of the incentives for the summer reading program. Special guest performer presentations are sponsored by the Appleton Library Foundation-FOAL Endowment Fund and the Virginia McMahon Fund.
The statewide Summer Library Program is sponsored annually by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. It is designed to encourage children to read for pleasure and to explore all the resources available at their public library. As they enjoy books and other library materials, they can maintain or improve their reading skills and build lifelong interests.
