| About the Obituary
Index This database is a partial index to obituaries and death notices from the newspapers published in Appleton from 1853 to the present. The indexing project began in 2000 and is an ongoing effort of Appleton library staff and several dedicated volunteers. New records are added regularly and the index is updated twice a week. This database is just an index to published obituaries and death notices. Actual obituaries and death notices are not available online through this index. The indexing of the papers dated between 1853 and 2000 is in its initial stages so only a small fraction of all obituaries or death notices have been entered. If a search of the index does not retrieve the obituary you want, try back at a later date. For information on finding obituaries not yet covered in our index, please see how to request a photocopy of an obituary. The newspapers that are (or will be) included in the index are listed below. From 2001 to the near present the database indexes all obituaries and death notices that appeared in the Post-Crescent. Photocopies of the full text of the obituaries or death notices are available from the Appleton Public Library. You can request a copy online or write to:
Requests are answered on a first come first served basis and processed as staff time permits. All copies will be sent through the mail. The charge for copying is $1.50 for each obituary. At this time the Library does not offer Fax or Email delivery of obituaries. Every effort is made to be as complete and accurate
as possible in this index. We are happy to receive notification of errors
or omissions. Reports of errors or omissions should relate only to indexed
obituaries and can be submitted online. At the bottom of each full record
will be a submit correction link. General questions or comments about
the Obituary Index can be sent to the Appleton Public Library Reference
Department through our Ask a
Librarian page. |
