Board of Trustees Minutes

President Schuessler called the meeting to order at 12:15
PM.
Communications
The library received a thank you letter from the
Salvation Army acknowledging receipt of 45 boxes of food collected during the
Food for Fines program, May 1st through May 22nd.
Minutes/Bills
Minutes of the May 9, 2001 meeting were reviewed: Bergen
moved approval, Bergman seconded, and the motion passed. Ducklow moved approval of the May 2001 bill
register, de Young seconded, the motion passed. In the absence of Secretary Parker, Bloedow was appointed Acting
Secretary to sign the bill registers.
Director's
Report
Dawson reported that Terry
Bergen has been reappointed to another 3 year term on the Board and Dr. William
Chandler has been appointed to a 3 year term on the Board effective July 1,
2001.
Dawson reported that over the
past few weeks, Library Staff has been meeting to discuss the 2002 Budget and
library needs. He outlined a calendar
of the process that leads to final budget approval by the City Council in
November. He reviewed items discussed
by the staff. The budget request will
be on the agenda for approval at the July Board meeting.
Kelly demonstrated a Library
Research Workstation that illustrated the many databases that can be accessed
through the terminals, the online catalog, access to the Internet and word
processing. The Children's Section has
a new home page and Kelly demonstrated the ease of using the site. Children can
now sign up for library reading programs through the Internet.
The
Appleton Library Foundation has awarded $92,500 in grants for the 2001-02
fiscal year, as follows: Materials, 14,000; Technology, 35,000; Programs,
25,000; Marketing, 11,500; Special Projects, 7,000. Bergman moved to accept the grants, Bloedow seconded, and the
motion passed.
As of June 13, 2001, over 500
children have signed up for the Summer Reading Program in Children's and 60
young adults have signed up for the Young Adult Programs. The Children's section plans to start a
program whereby a traveling trophy would be awarded to the school with the
largest number of children signed up for the Summer Reading Program.
Other
Business
A brochure listing areas of
interest for Special Needs patrons was made available to Board members to
distribute through their places of business.
Bergman requested that an e-mail be sent before the next Board meeting
to announce the date and time of the meeting.
Ducklow made a motion to
adjourn the meeting, Bloedow seconded.
The meeting adjourned at
1:40 PM.
