Director's Report
The 1998 City Budget is scheduled for publication on October 15, 1997. The Mayor has decided not to include the Library's supplemental request for a new technology position. Bergen recommended that the Board draft a letter to be sent to the Mayor in support of adding this position. Bergman made the motion that a letter be sent to the Mayor stating that if this position is not included it will again be in next year’s budget request. Bloedow seconded and the motion passed.
Dawson stated that he had mailed a letter to the Governor’s office in support of state library funding initiatives. Three areas of support for libraries were sought in the state budget; including technology grants, an increase in library system aids and statewide resource provider contracts. The only veto by the Governor was for technology grants, so the legislative session was considered a successful one by the state library community. Barbara Kelly and Cece Wiltzius will be attending a state conference on technology funding alternatives on November 10.
Dawson expressed satisfied with paving and landscaping in the parking lot. He is hopeful that all invoices for the work will be submitted to the Foundation soon and that the property will be transferred to the City as soon as possible.
A list of grants from the Library Foundation was distributed. These included:
