November 10, 1997

Minutes

President Bergen called the meeting to order at 5:05 PM. The minutes of the October 13, 1997 meeting were presented. Bergman moved approval and Loebach seconded. The motion passed.

Bill Register

The bill register and financial report for October, 1997 were presented. A corrected checkbook expenditure report was distributed. Loebach moved approval and Matz seconded. The motion passed.

Director's Report

Dawson reported that the Council Finance Committee budget hearing had gone well and the 1998 Library budget request had been approved by the Committee. The full budget will be considered by Council on November 12.

Dawson told the Board that he and Bergen had attended the League of Municipalities Conference on October 16. The session "The Library Board and the Governing Body: Who has Authority Over What?" was a good summary of the League's position. There was discussion of the ways in which library boards and directors have the responsibility to administer libraries while working cooperatively and still maintaining autonomy. Dawson distributed copies of notes from the session.

At the present time the expansion and remodeling capital budget has a balance of approximately $300,000. Once the final parking lot bills are received and paid this balance will be turned back to the City.

Dawson distributed copies of the proposed 1998 calendar. Matz moved approval Loebach seconded. The motion passed.

Other

Bergen told the Board she had written the Mayor addressing the Library’s request for a new technical staff position and the likelihood that the position will be requested again in the 1999 budget.

The meeting adjourned at 5:55 PM. The next meeting was set for December 8, 1997 at 5:00 PM.
