approved by Library Board of Trustees 12/8/97, revised 1/12/98

MISSION STATEMENT

The Appleton Public Library provides the community with educational, informational and recreational library services and materials in an accessible, economic, efficient, personal and timely manner.

VISION STATEMENT

The Appleton Public Library will serve to meet the ongoing and changing educational, informational and recreational needs of the community through access to traditional library resources and emerging technologies. A service-oriented, sufficient and highly qualified staff will work together with the Library Board to develop and implement clearly focused and shared goals. The library will provide a safe, pleasant and efficient environment in an aesthetic and convenient facility. An expanded funding base will sustain current operations and support anticipated growth of service to the community.

The Library's primary roles will be formal education support, independent learning, reference and information, and children's door to learning.

The library will be a leader in providing delivery of ideas and information as part of a strong regional community network with links to educational institutions, businesses, governments, community agencies and other libraries. This network will incorporate human, electronic, and material resources that will enrich and benefit the community.
