Show Don’t Tell: Using Imagery in your Writing - Presented by Bill Gillard, Assistant Professor of English, UW-Fox Valley     

Critiques:
Please bring 5-6 copies of a 2-3 page work to share. Your writing will be critiqued by the facilitator and other attendees and gentle but constructive criticism will be provided.

Writing on the spot:
Come prepared for anything - stretch your writing skills with fun, short writes based on various prompts. It might surprise you what you can write on a deadline!

Special Events:
Periodically we will have special guest presenters focusing on a specialized writing topic. These events are always interesting and informative!

1:30 - 3 pm
Editing workshop with Laurie and Rob Kaiser of The Post Crescent. Participants will learn about basic editing skills used in feature writing, editorial writing, project writing and news writing.
 
 
 

About the Facilitator
Writing Matters is facilitated by Amy, APL's Library Programming Assistant. Amy has a B.A. in Creative Writing from Loyola University in New Orleans and an M.A. in English from Northern Illinois University. She has taught writing and literature at both the high school and college levels as well as tutored students in writing for the SAT, ACT, and college applications. In addition, Amy has worked in publishing as an Acquisitions Editor and served two years as the Assistant Director of Sigma Tau Delta, The International English Honor Society. Amy believes in allowing writers to experiment in a constructive yet non-judgmental atmosphere. Writers of all backgrounds are welcomed.
