This morning, with the help of a group of Little Chute Middle School Students, the 2014 Fox Cities Reads author and book were announced! This year's selection for the eighth annual Fox Cities Reads is Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. The book has been on the New York Times Best Seller list for middle grades for 58 consecutive weeks and will appeal to community members of all ages. The read will culminate with visits by the author on April 9 and 10.
Wonder was chosen for a number of reasons, the top one being the issues covered in the story that can be utilized here in the Fox Cities for community discussion. The broad appeal of Wonder was also important. While the book is targeted to students, it has been a very popular read for adults as well; we see this as an opportunity to engage a larger portion of our community in discussions about bullying, accepting that other people are different, and disabilities in general. We hope that families will read and discuss the book together.
We hope you'll pick up a copy today and join in the discussions to follow. Books are located near the front entrance. We would like to give a big thank you to Little Chute Middle School students and teachers who helped with the launch this morning at their school library. They did a great job!
